Everything You Need to Know About Beard Transplants

Get the Facial Hair Growth You’ve Always Wanted

Facial hair can be a defining feature, which is why it can be frustrating for some men who are unable to grow full beards. If you don’t have the natural genetics that allows you to enjoy certain facial hairstyles, a beard transplant might be a good option to consider. When hair loss affects the scalp, topical medication can be used to support hair growth. Unfortunately for the beard area, these same topical medications do not work. The most effective way to increase facial hair or improve patchy beard spots is through a beard transplant. Contact us today to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Arocha so he can accurately assess the area that needs to be covered and give you a personalized quote. At this time, we are currently offering virtual consultations via Facetime, Zoom, and Skype. Call Us: 713-526-HAIR (4247)

What to Expect During a Beard Transplant Procedure

A beard transplant is a surgery that can help you overcome genetics to enjoy facial hair that looks full and natural. It is very much like a hair transplant, in which hair follicles are sourced from another part of your body, often the back of your scalp, and transplanted onto selected areas of your face.

When you come into our clinic on the morning of your procedure, you will meet with Dr. Arocha to confirm your beard and facial hair plan. Before moving forward, we will discuss the steps, review your options and examples and drawings of yourself with beard types from your consultation. Once you have approved the beard style and any other area you want covered such as sideburns or mustache, we transplant the follicles.

How Beard Restoration Works

We perform all procedures on-site in our specialized medical suites. We use a local anesthetic so you don’t feel pain during the course of the procedure. At Arocha Hair Restoration and Transplant Center, we offer two different types of beard transplants.

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)

A FUT procedure includes selecting a strip of tissue from the donor area, usually on the back of the head. We then trim the individual grafts from that strip of tissue and implant them into the sites that Dr. Arocha creates for the beard.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

In FUE procedures, we extract each hair follicle individually from the donor area and then transplant the individual grafts into the sites that Dr. Arocha creates for the beard.

Beard Transplant Side Effects and Recovery

You will need approximately one week for the visual healing to occur. There will be some minor swelling up to four days after the beard transplant, and tiny crusts may form around the newly implanted hair follicle as they are healing, but these should flake off within a few days. We will show you how to gently remove these scabs with soap and warm water to keep the transplanted grafts safe. Bruising is another potential side effect of this procedure, but it will resolve over one to two weeks. This is not a very common side effect.

We provide detailed aftercare instructions and ask that all patients follow Dr. Arocha’s post-operative instructions to minimize side effects.

Transplanted Hair Growth Results

It can take one year to 18 months for the hair results to fully grow. After about a14 days, you should be able to start shaving and trimming your new beard normally. Some of your new hairs may fall out after a few weeks, which should not be cause for alarm. New and natural-looking facial hair will grow in its place and you can enjoy grooming and styling your new facial hair.

If you’re wondering how long a beard transplant lasts, know that they withstand the test of time. We have had hair transplant patients from over ten years ago who still have their transplanted hair. Beard transplant results are just as permanent.
