The eyes are often the first things people notice about one’s appearance, and even the most subtle changes around the eyes can have an effect on the overall aesthetic of the face. Individuals who have lost a significant number of eyelashes often feel self-conscious about the way they look, and powerless to do anything about it. Fortunately, there are both medical and surgical options available from our board-certified hair loss surgeon, Dr. Bernardino Arocha, that have proven very effective at restoring lost eyelashes. Advanced treatments for this common condition can renew the eyelashes with enhanced thickness and density, bringing out the eyes with beautiful results.
What causes the loss of eyelashes?
Hypotrichosis (inadequate growth of eyelashes) can be due to a number of factors. These include:
- Hormonal changes
- Alopecia Areata
- Certain medications
- Endocrine/thyroid disorders
- Chemotherapy
- Nutritional deficiency
- Reactions to chemicals in certain mascaras
- Excessive tugging
- Blepharitis
These are just a few of the possible causes of eyelash loss. The condition can also be due to environmental concerns and just the failure of eyelashes to regrow after they fall out naturally. The good news is, our practice offers a number of treatment options that can address the loss of eyelashes.
What are some of the treatment options that can restore the eyelashes?
Here at Arocha Hair Restoration, we offer both surgical facial hair transplant procedures and non-surgical techniques to restore eyelashes with results that look natural. Our options include:
LATISSE®
LATISSE® is a revolutionary topical solution that is available by prescription. It is FDA-approved for treating hypotrichosis. LATISSE® is designed to stimulate the growth of fuller, thicker, and darker eyelashes with results that can be seen in as little as four weeks. The solution is applied daily to the areas targeted for treatment. After about 16 weeks, or once the optimal results have been achieved, the LATISSE® solution can typically be applied less frequently. This is an innovative treatment that can be performed at home and has proven to be very effective for many patients.
Surgical Eyelash Restoration
For patients who may not be candidates for LATISSE® and for those who have irreparably damaged follicles that cannot grow hair, surgical eyelash restoration may be an option. This procedure utilizes essentially the same techniques as hair transplant surgery. Our experienced hair restoration surgeon will meticulously extract healthy strands of hair from the back or sides of the head and transplant them onto the eyelids. He will be very precise in his placement of the donor hairs to create results that look like the eyelashes were never lost in the first place.
Eyelash transplantation can also be an option for patients who do not suffer from significant hypotrichosis, but simply want to accentuate their eyelashes for a thicker, fuller appearance.
Dr. Arocha will meet with you for an initial consultation to talk about your needs and goals. Once he has performed a comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Arocha can determine which eyelash restoration option can best help you achieve a renewed set of eyelashes with beautiful results.
