Hair Restoration Options
With surgical procedures, medication, and other options, individuals have more choices than ever before when it comes to addressing hair loss. Dr. Bernardino Arocha, our experienced hair restoration surgeon, can meet with you for a complimentary consultation to discuss your goals and help you determine the best course of action for your needs.
Below are some of the more popular hair restoration methods in use today:
Your Own Natural Hair
Among the many hair restoration options available to both men and women, none is more effective than utilizing one’s own natural hair to restore areas affected by hair loss. Unlike synthetic hair that must be replaced as hair grows, the Arocha Hair Restoration process is designed to create permanent results and serve as the most effective solution to hair loss.
Topical Medications / Over-the-Counter and Prescription Medications
There are a variety of medications designed to treat hair loss. Popular options include Propecia® and ROGAINE®. Just how effective these medications actually are often varies from one person to another. Particularly in conjunction with hair restoration surgery, some types of medication can be effective in slowing, stabilizing, and/or preventing hair loss.
Hairpiece or Toupee
While hairpieces or toupees, whether natural or synthetic, have remained popular solutions for many years, there are a number of drawbacks to these options. Many of them create a very artificial appearance, and they need to be glued or snapped to the scalp in order to hold their position. The scalp can also have a tendency to become irritated and hot under a hairpiece. There are ongoing maintenance issues as well: the hairpiece must be regularly shampooed and styled as the hair that surrounds it grows. Plus, some sporting activities and other interests may not be very accommodating to the limitations of a hairpiece.
Hair extensions involve the attachment of human hair to hair that already exists on the scalp. If an individual has enough hair to accommodate the extensions, this option may offer some benefits; however, it’s important to remember that the effects are temporary and the process must be repeated as the original hair grows out. Also, the extensions must be dyed to blend well with one’s existing hair. In addition, the process of getting hair extensions can take up to 10 hours.
While vitamins can be very good at improving the flow of blood to hair follicles and keeping the scalp and surrounding skin healthy and smooth, there is simply no known vitamin that can be considered effective at restoring hair.
